"Skaal Krush"

iTunes CD Baby

How does one describe the sound of something? The energy and feel of a performance that you may not have seen yet? Well, let's start here: Think 20th century. Think Steinbeck, industrial print presses, and Jack the Ripper. Imagine a hint of 20’s flare with a light dusting of the blues. Think sleeping out under the stars, traveling fairs and carnivals, wax seals, and ribbons. That begins to set the tone for Troupe Carnivàle’s debut album, "Skaal Krush".

Jackie Jae and Jason Cowsill have clearly drawn from some diverse stylistic elements in writing "Skaal Krush"; mixing folk with the blues and a unique blend of carnival-esque interpretations of alt-country, they’ve created a subversive, somewhat anti-Nashville vibe that’s altogether addictive. But don’t assume this album is a throwback to bygone eras. While many of the songs seem retrogressive, it’s very much part of the here and now.

Listen to it with a glass of wine and the lights low. Listen to it while driving through the rain. Put it on an old stereo and absorb it through a pair of headphones. And then listen to your instinct that says, "Listen to it again."
